THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
A Pataskala man who was charged in connection with the area's largest drug bust in recent memory is the second person accused of forcing a toddler to smoke marijuana.

Melvin Blevins, 18, is facing federal charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, giving drugs to a minor, possessing a controlled substance and illegally having a firearm.

Blevins was indicted along with brothers Donald G. Dailey Jr. and Tim R. Dailey Jr. in what law-enforcement officials said was the biggest drug net they could remember.

Internal Revenue Service and Drug Enforcement Administration agents raided the Daileys' homes in March and found more than $3.2 million in cash and 2,100 pounds of marijuana.

After the arrests this month, authorities became aware of the videotape involving the toddler when a pawnshop clerk turned it into police, federal court records show.

The tape was in a camcorder that Blevins sold to a Columbus pawnshop in February. The tape showed Blevins holding a marijuana pipe to the toddler's mouth. In the tape, the child is being held by Donald Dailey's 16-year-old daughter, Angel.

Angel Dailey has since been charged with two delinquency counts of corrupting another with drugs and one of child endangerment.

“You want more, or you good?” Blevins asks the toddler on the tape. The toddler, who reportedly turns 2 this month, hasn't been identified.

Last week, federal Magistrate Judge Mark A. Abel ordered Blevins be released, but Assistant U.S. Attorney David DeVillers objected.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday before federal Judge Michael H. Watson to determine whether Blevins can be freed pending trial.
