The derailment closed Radnor Road in Troy Township just north of Delaware.
DELAWARE, Ohio—A Norfolk Southern train traveling from Chicago to Columbus derailed early this morning in rural
Delaware County, authorities said.
The train was headed south around 4 a.m. when 24 double-stacked boxcars ran off the tracks near Radnor Road in Troy Township, said Chief Troy Morris of the Tri-Township Fire District. No one was hurt. Fire crews contained a small leak in the 1,000-gallon propane tank that powers a generator for the railroad-crossing signal at Radnor Road. Morris said he anticipated the road would remained closed until all the wreckage is cleared away, which could take at least a day. The train was hauling retail merchandise and did not contain any hazardous materials, said Rudy Husband, a Norfolk Southern spokesman. Railroad officials are in the process of re-routing the roughly 30 trains that travel the same
route through Columbus each day.
