DELAWARE, Ohio—A Norfolk Southern train traveling from Chicago to Columbus derailed early this morning in rural Delaware County, authorities said.

The train was headed south around 4 a.m. when 24 double-stacked boxcars ran off the tracks near Radnor Road in Troy Township, said Chief Troy Morris of the Tri-Township Fire District.

No one was hurt. Fire crews contained a small leak in the 1,000-gallon propane tank that powers a generator for the railroad-crossing signal at Radnor Road.

Morris said he anticipated the road would remained closed until all the wreckage is cleared away, which could take at least a day.

The train was hauling retail merchandise and did not contain any hazardous materials, said Rudy Husband, a Norfolk Southern spokesman.

Railroad officials are in the process of re-routing the roughly 30 trains that travel the same route through Columbus each day.
